As a writer, I’ve always appreciated the “undo” function in Microsoft Word. When I accidentally delete a paragraph, I can make the text reappear—and make up for my mistake—in a matter of seconds.

Wouldn’t it be great if life worked this way?

Maybe an argument with a family member has led to years of bitterness and resentment. You wish you could back track and handle the situation differently, but at this point, you wonder if your loved one will even forgive you. Or maybe you recently accepted a job that seemed to meet all your professional needs, only to discover that your role is much different than advertised. You wish you could hit rewind, but you’ve already moved your family, purchased a home and started a new life.

Of course, there’s no undo function for these situations. You can’t press a button to erase your anxiety, fear and disappointment. So what do you do?

When the weight of your circumstances feels unbearable, I encourage you to find a quiet place, open your Bible and begin reading God’s Word. These four Bible verses will get you started:

  1. Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)
Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.
  2. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (GNTD)
But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ's power over me.
  3. James 1:2-4 (GNTD)
My friends, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure. Make sure that your endurance carries you all the way without failing, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
  4. Psalm 55:22 (GNTD)
Leave your troubles with the Lord, and he will defend you; he never lets honest people be defeated.
