Some days, I feel like I’m on top of the world; I fly through my to-do list, go for a run after work and head to bed early, feeling as rested as ever. Other days don’t go quite this well. While being pulled in a dozen different directions, I try helplessly to stay afloat, counting down the hours until I can finally climb into bed.

But often, once I lay down, my mind replays the chaos over and over again. Did I miss a detail on that project? Did I remember to respond to that email? Did I ever take my laundry out of the washing machine? In these moments, sleep feels far from reach.

Are you in the midst of a chaotic day today?

Maybe, from the second you arrived at work, your day has felt like a perfect storm of responsibilities and deadlines. You fear taking a break because you’re committed to making it home in time for dinner. So you’ve spent the past several hours running from meeting to meeting, trying to accomplish more than you’ve ever accomplished in an eight-hour day.

Or maybe you feel bogged down by all the commitments ahead. Make dinner, take your son to baseball practice, do your laundry, balance your budget, call your cell phone company about that miscellaneous charge. How can you possibly do it all?

In these moments, you can meditate on promises of peace and rest found in God’s Word. These four Bible verses will get you started:

Psalm 32:7-8 (CEV)

You are my hiding place! You protect me from trouble, and you put songs in my heart because you have saved me. You said to me, “I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you.”

Isaiah 26:3-4 (CEV)

The Lord gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm. So always trust the Lord because he is forever our mighty rock.

Exodus 15:2 (CEV)

The Lord is my strength, the reason for my song, because he has saved me. I praise and honor the Lord—he is my God and the God of my ancestors.

Matthew 11:28-30 (CEV)

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.
