You’re down to your last dollar. Maybe you’ve been scraping by for months, or maybe you’re a new member of the “I can’t even look at my bank account” club. Either way, you have no idea how you’ll survive the next month—let alone the next 24 hours. And here you are, asking yourself the same question over and over again: what’s next?

To cope, and get financially back on track, you’ve tried every trick in the book: selling unnecessary valuables, picking up odd jobs, clipping every coupon that could possibly save you money. And you’ve talked to everyone who could lend you a hand, from close friends to distant family members.

But you still don’t have any money. And you’re still stuck reciting those dreaded two words: what’s next?

In these moments, I encourage you to open your Bible and meditate on the reminders of God’s presence with you. Even when you’ve hit rock bottom—even when you feel anxious, afraid, overwhelmed and insecure—God promises to never abandon you.

These five Bible verses will get you started:

Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)

“Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.”

Psalm 16:8 (GNTD)

I am always aware of the Lord's presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me.

John 14:27 (GNTD)

“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”

Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)

Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.

Luke 12:24 (GNTD)

[Jesus says]: “Look at the crows: they don't plant seeds or gather a harvest; they don't have storage rooms or barns; God feeds them! You are worth so much more than birds!”
