Fear felt like my only option. The medical tests I had taken weeks before held the answers to my future—and I felt so fragile, like I could shatter into a million pieces. My eyes kept filling up with tears every time I thought about the results.

Would the news be good or bad? What would the future hold for me? My mind wandered into all different scenarios. And frankly, none of them were good.

Then a friend offered to pray for me, encouraging me to claim God's truth in order to overcome my fear. I found strength and peace in the process. I'm not saying it was easy, but the comfort I found when he shared Psalm 56:3-4 sustained me: "When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty, I put my trust in you. I trust in God and am not afraid; I praise him for what he has promised. What can a mere human being do to me?" (GNTD). I found myself gaining strength from repeating, "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."

Eventually, I received the news from the doctor that I had been waiting for. There was no evidence of the condition that I had feared, and I felt the peace of Christ in my heart.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with fear over an issue in your life? A relationship, or the lack of one? A tenuous job situation? Finances? If you are, you too can find comfort and strength in claiming God's truth for yourself with these prayers:

My help comes from the Lord.

I look to the mountains; where will my help come from? My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.– Psalm 121:1-2 (GNTD)

Be merciful to me, O God.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful, because I come to you for safety. In the shadow of your wings I find protection until the raging storms are over. I call to God, the Most High, to God, who supplies my every need.– Psalm 57:1-2 (GNTD)

I fear not, for you, God, are with me.

Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.– Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)

The Lord is my light and my salvation.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The Lord protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid. – Psalm 27:1 (GNTD)
