On my 13th birthday, I saved up enough money to buy myself a treasure I always wanted: a (microscopic) diamond ring.

The day I bought my ring, I woke up early, carefully applied blue eye shadow to match my baby blue dress, and showered myself in my mother’s perfume. Walking into the mall, I felt like a woman going on a shopping spree in a movie. I thought, “Wow. Finally. This is what it’s like to be grown-up.”

How little I understood what it would actually be like to handle finances as an adult. The older I get, the more I see how money—or the lack of it—can build up stress, worry, anger.

I’ve spent nights hunched over my computer, calculator in hand, wondering how I might possibly manage to pay all my bills on time. And I’ve spent days wondering how I’d ever manage to get a single dollar into my savings account. There are still moments where I fret over how to save enough money for my future, how to pay for giant unexpected expenses, how to pay student loans on time.

Do you struggle with anxiety over your finances? If yes, you are not alone. And there is hope—even when it seems like money is unmanageable. In his Word, God promises to take care of us when we’re overwhelmed. Here are all the ways God promises to take care of you:

God will give you what you need.

The Lord gives strength to his people
    and blesses them with peace. — Psalm 29:11, GNTD

God will give you rest.

When I lie down, I go to sleep in peace;
    you alone, O Lord, keep me perfectly safe. — Psalm 4:8, GNTD

God will fill you with peace even when you’re overwhelmed.

Be confident, my heart,
    because the Lord has been good to me. — Psalm 116:7, GNTD

God will protect you.

I depend on God alone;
    I put my hope in him.
He alone protects and saves me;
    he is my defender,
    and I shall never be defeated. — Psalm 62:5-8, GNTD

God will quiet your troubled heart.

Instead, I am content and at peace.
    so my heart is quiet within me. — Psalm 131:2, GNTD
