Lately, I’ve felt bombarded by tweets, blog posts and Facebook updates that portray life as one giant party. The people I follow seem to dine out every night and go on vacation every weekend. Don’t they sleep? Don’t they work?
Compared to these people, my life feels plain and boring. Sure, I love eating at restaurants, but I could never afford to dine out as much as they do. And I love to travel, but I have a job and responsibilities at home—I could never take off weeks at a time to go sightseeing. But when I stumble upon these tweets, posts and updates, my life begins to feel dull.
Can you relate?
Maybe you have three energetic children at home and rarely have time to step away from the busyness of life. You wish you could pack your bags, jump on a plane and head to the Caribbean for an exotic vacation. But the logistics—finding a place for your kids to stay and taking time off work—gives you a headache. When will I finally get to treat myself? You think to yourself.
Or maybe you’re relying on two part-time jobs to pay your college tuition and monthly bills. You desperately want a degree, but your life has begun to feel overloaded with work. You dream of a day when you’ll have the time and money to live a more exciting life. But now, you’re stuck staring at textbooks you don’t want to read and phone bills you don’t want to pay.
When you long to live a more exciting life, you can turn to Scripture for peace, hope and assurance. These five Bible verses will get you started:
- Isaiah 40:31 (GNTD)
But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak. - Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. - Isaiah 26:3 (GNTD)
You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you. - Romans 8:28 (GNTD)
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. - Jeremiah 29:11 (GNTD)
I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.
