Some days feel like a whole week crammed into a 24-hour period. By the time you go for a run, leave your office, make dinner, wash the dishes, pay your bills, fold the laundry and collapse on the couch to read a magazine, it’s time to go to bed and start the cycle all over again.

Have you been here before?

In my own life, I often find myself fighting to avoid this level of fatigue. I know I’m too busy. But I fear life without commitments and responsibilities. So I say “yes” to most opportunities that come my way, only to look back and say, “what was I thinking? Why did I add another commitment to my agenda?”

Maybe you’re like me, and life without busyness makes you anxious. You want to feel connected to other people, so you pile commitments onto your calendar. But before long, you find yourself feeling stressed and irritable. You long for rest.

Or maybe your busyness feels unavoidable. To provide for your family, you’ve picked up extra hours at work and begun searching for a second income. But you’re tired. And your heightened workload has left you desperately needing a day off.

If the chaos of life has worn you down today, I encourage you to meditate on Scripture for peace, hope and rest. These four Bible verses will get you started:

  1. Matthew 11:28-29 (GNTD)
Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest.
  2. Isaiah 26:3 (GNTD)
You, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.
  3. Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  4. Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
