Can you think of a more infuriating experience than sitting in traffic? Cars jammed into a one-mile stretch of highway. Drivers relentlessly honking their horns. Motorcyclists flying down the shoulder. There you sit, trapped in the middle of an old station wagon and a sluggish 18-wheeler.

Wondering what to do next, you contemplate changing lanes, taking the closest exit and searching your phone for alternate routes. But what if you get lost? What if your GPS leads you into more traffic?

This experience reminds me of the uncertain situations I encounter. I know there’s an end destination—I just don’t know how to get there. Can you relate?

Maybe you’re working two jobs to put your children through college. But after years of 14-hour days, you’ve reached your whit’s end. Maybe, after grieving the loss of a loved one, you can’t seem to find peace. The life you want to live feels beyond reach. Or maybe, after moving to a new state, you feel lonely and forgotten. You contemplate returning to your previous home. What’s next? You wonder.

In these moments, when life feels uncertain, I want to stop searching for an immediate fix or a perfect solution. Instead, I want to turn to God and his Word for the strength to find peace—even in the midst of discomfort.

If you’re stuck in “traffic” today, and wondering what to do next, join me in meditating on these five Bible verses:

  1. Proverbs 3:5-6 (GNTD)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.
  2. Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
  3. Psalm 32:8 (GNTD)
The Lord says, “I will teach you the way you should go; I will instruct you and advise you.
  4. Joshua 1:9 (GNTD)
Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.”
  5. Psalm 37:23-24 (GNTD)
The Lord guides us in the way we should go and protects those who please him. If they fall, they will not stay down, because the Lord will help them up.
