“Hope springs eternal in the human breast.”
As a college freshman, I remember reading this line penned by Alexander Pope. Even as a young woman, I knew this line cut to the heart of what it means to be human. With hope, we can face all things—the mundane and the routine, the tragic and the catastrophic—and everything in between.
The Bible is filled with messages of hope, and those messages illumine even the darkest night. We share the following Scripture verses to give you 6 reasons to hope in the promises of God.
- “But God remembered Noah and the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth and the waters receded.” Genesis 8:1 (NIV)
- “I will remember my covenant with Jacob and with Isaac and with Abraham, and I will renew my promise to give my people the land.” Leviticus 26:42 (GNTD)
- “When hope is crushed, the heart is crushed, but a wish come true fills you with joy.” Proverbs 13:12 (GNTD)
- “He has brought us by faith into this experience of God’s grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory! We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance brings God’s approval and his approval creates hope.” Romans 5:2-4 (GNTD)
- “’Where, Death, is your victory? Where, Death, is your power to hurt?’” Death gets its power to hurt from sin and sin gets its power from the Law. But thanks to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (GNTD)
- “Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people.” 1 Peter 1:3-4(a) (GNTD)
