I'm a person who answers texts, replies to tweets, and reacts to Facebook posts immediately. A friend of mine is the same way. We start texting about the Detroit Tigers' game, and the texts fly back and forth. It makes me thankful for unlimited messaging.

I'd like God to answer instantly too. But there are times he doesn't. With God, there are times I just have to wait—and, honestly, I'm not used to that. I dealt with this recently when I went for a job interview about six hours from home. I drove what seemed like forever, met lots of people, came home, and I wasn't really sure if this was where God was leading me. What I thought was clear in trusting him became unclear…again.

In this moment, I wish God could just instant message me.

After the waiting, I begin to see how God used the waiting to bring me closer to Him. It's not always the path I would have chosen and thankfully I wasn't offered the job. But now I see his path that was used to answer my prayer, and I begin to understand. God promises to listen and take care of me—not to immediately respond.

I still question, doubt, and ask God, "Why?" But he is always there and always faithful. He listens.

If you're wondering if God really listens, I invite you to open your Bible and meditate on the ways God hears you. These four verses will get you started:

Isaiah 30:18 (GNTD)

And yet the Lord is waiting to be merciful to you. He is ready to take pity on you because he always does what is right. Happy are those who put their trust in the Lord.

Psalm 27:14 (GNTD)

Trust in the Lord. Have faith, do not despair. Trust in the Lord.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (GNTD)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.

I John 5:14-15 (GNTD)

We have courage in God's presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will.  He hears us whenever we ask him; and since we know this is true, we know also that he gives us what we ask from him.
