Just when I think I have my future planned out, things change. I find something new to worry about, I lose something I care deeply about or I develop a different perspective on something I was once so sure about.
Whether conscious and calculated or spontaneous and daring, we’re all curious about what our futures hold. We’re all terrified of the years ahead that hold so much unknown. And we all dread questions like, “What’s your 10-year plan?”, or, “So, what do you want to do with the rest of your life?"
Are you experiencing a time of uncertainty right now?
Maybe your financial situation has recently changed, and you’re worried about providing for the basic needs of your family. Or perhaps you’re focused on your health. On top of stressing about your sick loved one, you can’t help but worry about the future of your own health as you grow older. Or maybe you even find yourself worrying about your children’s future. A list of behavioral issues and bad decisions has caused you to fear what kind of people they might become.
We all go through stretches of uncertainty, where we fear the future and seek comfort in the things, people and ideas that are constant and close. This fear and worry can go on for days, weeks or even years.
But here’s the good news: if you feel uncertain about anything today, big or small, you can bring your concerns to God in prayer. Pray this with me:
God, calm my anxious heart and mind. Let peace overflow in my life, no matter how frustrating my circumstances may be.
“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid. - John 14:27 (GNTD)
Provide me with guidance and wisdom each day. In the midst of doubts and uncertainties, give me the grace to stop and turn to you in prayer.
Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (GNTD)
Be richly present in my everyday life, revealing your works to me in unexpected places, so that my trust in you may grow.
Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. If I flew away beyond the eastor lived in the farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me.– Psalm 139:7-10 (GNTD)
As I continue to study your Word and draw closer and closer to you, guide my steps and protect me and my loved ones. Amen.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong. - Proverbs 3:5-7 (GNTD)
