On the surface, today feels like a normal day: you woke up, dropped a bagel in the toaster and caught up on local news. But beneath the surface, you feel far from normal.

You're dealing with a pit in your stomach that won’t go away. You can’t stop thinking about that one thing that kept you from sleeping last night. And you desperately want to curl up on the couch and never leave your home. Today, peace feels far from reach.

To cope, you tried going for a walk and texting a close friend. But you just can’t seem to shake your anxious thoughts: Will I ever escape all of this? Will I ever find rest? Will someone or something finally rescue me from my fear and anxiety?

Maybe you feel like David in Psalm 5 when he calls out to God for relief: “ Listen to my words, O Lord, and hear my sighs. Listen to my cry for help, my God and king! I pray to you, O Lord; you hear my voice in the morning; at sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer” (Psalm 130:1-3, GNTD).

If you long for peace today, you can follow David’s lead and seek God for peace, comfort and rest. These six prayers will get you started:

Lord, I’m suffering today. Fill my heart and mind with your peace.
Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.– John 14:27 (GNTD)

Lord, I’m exhausted. Help me find rest in the midst of my worry.
I will refresh those who are weary and will satisfy with food everyone who is weak from hunger. So then, people will say, “I went to sleep and woke up refreshed.” - Jeremiah 31:25-26 (GNTD)

Lord, I feel hopeless. Fill me with your hope.
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.– Romans 15:13 (GNTD)

Lord, I feel trapped by my fear and anxiety. Help me feel your presence today.
Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me.– Psalm 139:7-10 (GNTD)

Lord, I have no idea what to do next. Guide me in the way I should go.
Hear me! Save me now! Be my refuge to protect me; my defense to save me. You are my refuge and defense; guide me and lead me as you have promised.– Psalm 31:2-3 (GNTD)

Lord, as I navigate this hectic season of life, help me to seek you continually.
Even lions go hungry for lack of food, but those who obey the Lord lack nothing good.– Psalm 34:10 (GNTD)
