You’re having a wonderful time, watching your kids play in the sand at the beach. But then, almost audibly, something tells you, What if they drown? What if they die right here, right now?
It doesn’t matter if the event is unlikely. Your heart doesn’t care that your fears aren’t healthy. Your heart starts to race, your mind seized with panic.
And you’re angry because this isn’t the first time a fearful thought threatened to ruin a great day.
Maybe it happens when you’re about to close on a great business deal. Something whispers, You’ll fail. You’re a fake.
Or perhaps it creeps up when you’re out on a date with your spouse. What if something bad happens to them? you wonder in the middle of a nice, relaxing dinner.
Surrendering Your Fears to God
Do constant fears claw away at your ability to feel at peace? Do you feel that burn in the pit of your stomach more often than you’d like?
The Bible tells us we can bring our fears to God (1 Peter 5:7). And God wants to trade our fears for his peace! That doesn’t mean we won’t still have thoughts that worry us. But it does mean we can bring every single one of those thoughts to him—and choose to trust that he is working for our good.
If you’re battling unwanted worries and fears today, take some time to read through these 4 truths from God’s Word:
When you feel scared, remember that God is for you.
Do not be afraid—I am with you!
I am your God—let nothing terrify you!
I will make you strong and help you;
I will protect you and save you. — Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)
Even though the world can be scary, God is in control.
In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us? — Romans 8:31 (GNTD)
God wants good things for you.
I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. — Jeremiah 29:11 (GNTD)
God can take your fears and give you peace.
"Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
