You remember the days when money wasn’t a problem.

Okay, well, less of a problem. Back then, you could eat out a few times a week without thinking of it. You easily saved up for that new dress or shirt you always wanted. You consistently managed to pay the credit card down to zero each and every month.

Now, you wish you had saved more. You wish you could go back to the time when money was less of a concern. You long for the days when you didn’t feel like a prisoner to money and all the worries that come with it.

Trusting God as Our Shelter

Are you overwhelmed with financial worries right now? Maybe you’ve lost your job due to the economic fallout of coronavirus, or you’re worried about losing your job in the future. Perhaps you’ve welcomed a new baby into the family, and you didn’t anticipate all the costs that would add up. Or a recent health scare left you saddled with hospital bills and outrageous medication costs.

Whatever the source of your financial worries, you can bring your worries to the source of all truth, hope, and strength: Jesus. In the Bible, Jesus tells us we can bring all our anxiety and heartache to him (1 Peter 5:7). When we bring him our worries, he offers us a peace that goes beyond human logic (Philippians 4:7), a peace that offers comfort and shelter from our emotional storms. All we have to do is ask for it.

Will you take a few moments to bring your problems to Jesus right now? Find a quiet space, calm your breathing, and pray through these 4 verses with me:

God, I feel like my worries about money are consuming all my thoughts. I’m anxious all the time. I know you love me, but I feel alone.

How much longer will you forget me, Lord? Forever?     How much longer will you hide yourself from me?
How long must I endure trouble?     How long will sorrow fill my heart day and night?     How long will my enemies triumph over me? —Psalm 13:2 (GNTD)

Help me remember that you will take care of me, even when money is tight.

His angel guards those who honor the Lord     and rescues them from danger.
Find out for yourself how good the Lord is.     Happy are those who find safety with him. Honor the Lord, all his people;     those who obey him have all they need. — Psalm 34:7-9 (GNTD)

Lord, give me your peace right now. I know I might not always feel your peace—and that’s okay. But right now, help me find it, even if it’s just for the moment.

Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid. — John 14:27 (GNTD)

God, I know you love me. Help me to put my faith in you and not in money. Thank you for taking care of me. Amen

This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes?  Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds? — Matthew 6:25-26 (GNTD)
