You hear your alarm clock ringing—quietly at first, and then increasingly louder—but you’re not ready to wake up. As you hit snooze and roll over, you can’t help but wonder when it will all get better. You’re ready for a new job. You’re ready for a fresh start. And you’re ready to stop hitting snooze every morning.
Have you been here before?
For years, you’ve dreamed of waking up to a rewarding career. And you’ve longed to know what it’s like to enjoy—or at least not detest—your job. But here you are, sleeping in once again, dreading the moment when you have to walk into your office and start another day.
Maybe you’re working 40 hours a week plus overtime and feel like your wasting your time supporting a company you don’t believe in. Maybe you’re working two jobs to make ends meet. You dislike both roles—but you have to pay your mortgage somehow. Or maybe you work for a micromanaging boss who consistently overlooks your well-being.
Regardless of your situation, you feel trapped in a job that doesn’t satisfy you. And you desperately want something new.
In these moments, the hope and supplication in the Psalms can help bring encouragement and peace. These four Psalms will get you started:
- Psalm 94:18-19 (GNTD)
I said, “I am falling”; but your constant love, O Lord, held me up. Whenever I am anxious and worried, you comfort me and make me glad. - Psalm 34:17-18 (GNTD)
The righteous call to the Lord, and he listens; he rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope. - Psalm 43:4-5 (GNTD)
Then I will go to your altar, O God; you are the source of my happiness. I will play my harp and sing praise to you, O God, my God. Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my savior and my God. - Psalm 91:14-15 (GNTD)
God says, “I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them.
