You wake up, hopeful and ready for a new day.

But as you check the time, you see you’re already late for work—and you haven’t even showered yet!

It’ll be okay, you tell yourself. You’re determined to have a good day.

On your way to work, the traffic is worse than ever. Once you make it into work, you hear that your coworker is leaving. On top of that, several of your favorite projects are being taken away from you.

It’s still okay, you say to yourself. I’m okay.

On your way home, you get a call from your spouse. They’re angry with you. You feel attacked for no reason.

What in the world are you doing? you ask God. Why are you attacking me like this?

The resentment you’ve been bottling up comes out in full force. You clench your jaw, your heart is pounding, and you feel powerless to do anything but give into the anxiety swelling inside you.

Finding Peace When the World’s Against You

When I have days like this, it’s so hard not to feel personally attacked. I look for threats to my happiness lurking around every corner. But I know now that there’s a way out of the mental spiral that takes over during hard days. And that way out is through God’s Word.

In the Bible, God tells us that he is for us. He is not attacking us. He loves us. He doesn’t resent us. He works for our good. He doesn’t root for our demise. Reading Scripture reminds me that I have the best supporter out there—the God of the universe! And there’s no way he’ll let me down. So even when I’m going through a hard week, I can hold onto the fact that the God of justice, peace, and love has chosen me to be his child—and he’ll never betray me, even when the world seems to be against me. That’s what really matters.

If you’re feeling attacked, overwhelmed, or powerless today, take some time to read through these 4 verses of peace and hope:

God is your biggest champion.

In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us? Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son—will he not also freely give us all things? — Romans 8:31-32

God will take your worries.

Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:28

God loves you more than you know.

See how much the Father has loved us! His love is so great that we are called God's children—and so, in fact, we are. — 1 John 3:1a

God will bring you joy.

May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. — Romans 15:13
