I just can’t catch a break.

I remember hearing my mom utter these words at her most stressful times when I was a kid. I also remember thinking, “Could it really be that bad?”

Now that I’m adult, I better understand how my mom sometimes feels. There are days—and even weeks—when I just can’t seem to catch a break.

Do you ever feel this way? Like you can’t keep up with all of life’s demands and responsibilities? Like there’s no time to rest?

Catching a Break in God’s Word

When I feel overwhelmed by the rush of life, it’s easy to feel like there isn’t enough time to do the things that matter: taking deep breaths, being present, focusing on the good things, finding peace in God’s Word.

It’s sad but true. Along with the folding laundry and completing household chores, I let reading God’s Word fall by the wayside.

But now I realize that reading God’s Word is the best thing to do during stressful, busy times in my life. It helps me refocus, decompress, and remember what matters in this world. All my work, responsibilities, and social events don’t matter if I’m doing it all with a heart for God. And how can my heart be focused on God if I’m ignoring him with all my work, responsibilities, and social events?

Do you need to take some time to refocus on God’s Word? Grab a cup of tea and take some time right now to ask God for his peace as you go about your busy life this week:

God, I’m feeling overwhelmed right now.

But those who trust in the Lord for help
    will find their strength renewed.
They will rise on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not get weary;
    they will walk and not grow weak. — Isaiah 40:31 (GNTD)

When things are crazy, it’s easy to lose sight of you. Forgive me.

 Sing, heavens! Shout for joy, earth!
    Let the mountains burst into song!
The Lord will comfort his people;
    he will have pity on his suffering people. — Isaiah 49:13 (GNTD)

Lord, gift me with your peace right now. I know I can feel your peace even during busy seasons.

Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:28 (GNTD)

Help me to fix my eyes on you. Remind me that you are with me always.

Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)

God, help me find joy during this busy reason. Show me that it’s not forever, and that it’s good to rest and read your Word. Thank you for loving me every day. Amen.

And so I am thankful and glad,
    and I feel completely secure,
because you protect me from the power of death.
I have served you faithfully,
    and you will not abandon me to the world of the dead.
You will show me the path that leads to life;
    your presence fills me with joy
    and brings me pleasure forever. — Psalm 16:9-11 (GNTD)
