The workplace is a great place to build relationships. On average, you spend 40 hours per week with your colleagues, an investment of time and energy that often leads to long-lasting professional connections, friendships and even romantic relationships.

But as time progresses, workplace relationships can become very stressful. Maybe it’s the boss who won’t let up or the co-worker who gossips about you. Perhaps you do everything the right way, and your manager still isn’t happy. Maybe you’ve been passed up for a promotion time and time again, and your situation seems unfair.

Thankfully, the Bible can help guide your response to these situations, offering wisdom for responding when you feel hurt, discouraged or brokenhearted.

The next time you come face to face with a difficult relationship, surrender the situation to God, and pray for your co-worker as God’s Word guides. You can use these prayers to get you started.

  1. Lord, help me show your love.
Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God.Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.– 1 John 4:7-8 (GNTD)
  2. Lord, help me forgive.
Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ. – Ephesians 4:32 (GNTD)
  3. Lord, defend me.
He is like a shield for all who seek his protection.– Proverbs 30:5 (GNTD)
  4. Lord, help me to keep my eyes on you.
Of course, my friends, I really do not think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. 14 So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above.– Philippians 3:13-14 (GNTD)
  5. Lord, help me to be humble.
Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves. And look out for one another's interests, not just for your own. – Philippians 2:3-4 (GNTD)
