Do you remember the first time they placed that baby in your arms? Can you recall the scent of her skin and the incomparable feeling of his tiny fingers around yours? Do you remember the dreams you had for her or the plans you had for him?

Surely you remember how they grew…that first giggle, those first steps, first day of kindergarten, first date? These are times full of hope.

Yet, as a parent, it’s hard to ignore the scary world we are living in. The news reports are filled with stories of violence and terror. Our kids face temptation like no other generation, and it’s so difficult to know that we can’t protect them from the troubles of this life. We can however, be proactive in guarding their minds, bodies and spirits in prayer.

Below are some verses to help guide you as you pray:

  1. Lord, protect them.
He will cover you with his wings;you will be safe in his care;his faithfulness will protect and defend you.– Psalm 91:4
  2. Lord, give them wisdom.
So be careful how you live. Don't live like ignorant people, but like wise people. Make good use of every opportunity you have, because these are evil days. Don't be fools, then, but try to find out what the Lord wants you to do.– Ephesians 5:15-17
  3. Lord, help them to resist temptation.
Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.– 1 Corinthians 10:13
  4. Lord, guide them.
For this reason we have always prayed for you, ever since we heard about you. We ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will, with all the wisdom and understanding that his Spirit gives. Then you will be able to live as the Lord wants and will always do what pleases him. Your lives will produce all kinds of good deeds, and you will grow in your knowledge of God. – Colossians 1:9-11
  5. Lord, give them a desire to know you more.
Teach me, Lord, what you want me to do,and I will obey you faithfully;teach me to serve you with complete devotion.—Psalm 86:11
