Sometimes it’s hard to express love. You feel it. You want to tell your loved one. But it’s hard to get the words out and show someone else what you truly feel.
But the Bible is all about love, including ways to show that love to others. This kind of love doesn’t necessarily involve boxes of chocolates and red roses, but it does mean looking out for someone else’s best interest.
Ultimately, the Bible’s example for love revolves around the love that God has for us. Because God loved us, we can sacrificially love others.
So today, take a moment to reflect on how the Bible suggests showing love to others. Then, decide how you are going to put that advice into practice, into love.
- Follow God’s example of love.
“And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”—John 13:34 (GNTD) - Show hospitality and empathy.
"Keep on loving one another as Christians. Remember to welcome strangers in your homes. There were some who did that and welcomed angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them. Remember those who are suffering, as though you were suffering as they are.”—Hebrews 13:1-3 (GNTD) - Speak and act according to the truth.
"My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.”—1 John 3:18 (GNTD) - Stick around, even in the hard times.
"Friends always show their love. What are relatives for if not to share trouble?”—Proverbs 17:17 (GNTD) - Act with patience, kindness and humility.
"Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.”—1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (GNTD)
