With your backpack draped over your shoulder—and a bagel balancing on top of your coffee mug—you race to your desk, drop your things and start organizing a stack of reports. You're behind on a time-intensive project, and you don’t want your boss to notice you. But she has. For the next five minutes, you continually nod your head as she explains the importance of efficiency.
"I understand," you respond, despite having zoned out for most of the conversation. "I'll make sure to meet the deadline."
As she walks away, you can’t help but list all the things about your job that drive you mad. My boss won’t get off my back. My salary hasn’t increased in years. My responsibilities are trivial. My co-workers gossip more than I did as a teenager.
Suddenly, you find yourself resenting almost everything about your workplace. I can’t wait to get out of this place, you think to yourself.
Sound familiar?
Sometimes, the stress of our working lives can directly influence the way we think and feel. A co-worker makes a rash comment, and we feel insecure. A boss rejects a project, and we feel inadequate. A peer receives a promotion, and we feel cheated. Suddenly, work becomes a place of constant frustration and disappointment.
If you’re feeling this way today, you can dive into God’s Word for messages of peace, hope and assurance. These four Bible verses will get you started:
Isaiah 26:3 (GNTD)
You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.
John 16:33 (GNTD)
I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world!
Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 40:31 (GNTD)
But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
