If you've ever read the 1963 children's book, "Where the Wild Things Are," you're familiar with the story's main character, Max. An adventurous young boy, Max walks through life in desperate need of a friend. He endures rejection from everyone he encounters—including his mother, who banishes him to his room in the opening pages of the book.

But as he plays in his room, Max's surroundings transform into a jungle. In this fantasy land, he meets a crew of mythical beasts named the "Wild Things" who join him on a series of adventures. For the first time in the story, Max has a place to belong.

Have you ever found yourself in a position like Max's—feeling rejected or alone, with nowhere to call home?

Maybe you just moved and everything feels unfamiliar. Maybe your spouse travels for work and you spend weeknights alone. Maybe you don't fit in with your co-workers. Maybe you long for a spouse, but have yet to find the right person. Maybe you recently lost a loved one and the grieving process has left you feeling lonely.

Regardless of your situation, you wish you had your own "Wild Things"—friends who could help you smile, laugh and savor life's adventures. But for now, you're left feeling anxious and alone.

In these moments, you can meditate on reminders of God's presence with us. These three Bible verses will get you started:

Deuteronomy 31:8 (GNTD)

The Lord himself will lead you and be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you, so do not lose courage or be afraid.

John 14:27 (CEV)

I give you peace, the kind of peace that only I can give. It isn’t like the peace that this world can give. So don’t be worried or afraid.

Joshua 1:9 (CEV)

I’ve commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the Lord your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go.
