I’ve come to realize that I’ll never have complete control of my finances. I’ve set savings goals, invested my excess income and tried tirelessly to stick to my monthly budget. But no matter how much I plan, something always goes awry. And no matter how carefully I manage my money, I constantly feel anxious about the future.

Can you relate?

Maybe, despite your best intentions, your expenses have spiraled out of control. A patch for your leaky roof, a cell phone plan for your youngest son, medical bills for your spouse, car insurance for your teenage daughter—you assumed this influx of bills would eventually slow down. But now, you’re wondering how you will provide for your family.

Or maybe you’ve spent months planning for a promotion your boss promised to you, only to find yourself in the same, unsatisfying job. You want to believe a raise is on the way. But you’re tired of waiting—and your debt isn’t going away anytime soon.

Have you been here before?

Thinking about your financial future may lead to stress, fear and anxiety. But there’s good news: when you wonder how you’ll make it through another month, you can turn to God’s Word for the strength to carry on. Whether you’re overwhelmed by your budget or struggling to pay off debt, I invite you to meditate on these five Bible verses:

  1. Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
  2. Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.
  3. Luke 12:24 (GNTD)
Look at the crows: they don't plant seeds or gather a harvest; they don't have storage rooms or barns; God feeds them! You are worth so much more than birds!
  4. Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Philippians 4:19-20 (GNTD)
And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs. To our God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen.
