With a discouraged sigh, you close out of your bank statement, shut the lid of your computer and prepare for a familiar conversation with your wife. You still don’t have the money you need. She responds with support, but cringes as you share the details of your financial situation. “So…what do we do now?” she asks.
You sit in silence, searching for an answer to her question. But you don’t have an answer; you don’t know what to do.
Have you ever navigated a situation like this one? No matter how many times you rearrange your budget, receive advice from a financial expert or invest in a cutting edge money management app, you still worry about your finances. You still struggle to pay the bills. And you still don’t know how to make ends meet.
When finances cause stress, generate anxiety and make you feel hopeless, call out to the Lord in prayer. And turn to his Word, meditating on messages of peace, hope and reassurance.
These five prayers will get you started:
- Lord, give me peace.
The Lord gives perfect peaceto those whose faith is firm. So always trust the Lord because he is forever our mighty rock.– Isaiah 26:3-4 (CEV) - Lord, help me feel your presence.
You have shown me the path to life, and you make me glad by being near to me. Sitting at your right side,I will always be joyful. – Psalm 16:11 (CEV) - Lord, show me the way.
Show me your paths and teach me to follow; guide me by your truth and instruct me. You keep me safe, and I always trust you. – Psalm 25:4-5 (CEV) - Lord, provide for my needs.
Look at the crows! They don’t plant or harvest, and they don’t have storehouses or barns. But God takes care of them. You are much more important than any birds.– Luke 12:24 (CEV) - Lord, help me honor you with my money.
Don’t worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well. – Matthew 6:31-33 (CEV)
