You pinch every penny. It feels like you’re even pinching half pennies.
Before payday, you think of all the extra money you’ll finally have to pay off bills and invest in your savings account.
But it seems like the minute the money hits your account, it disappears without a trace.
Sometimes, you’re convinced there must be some system error. An extra zero added to a withdrawal. A bill payment accidentally deducted twice. But you study your statement, do the math, and you still come up short.
And that’s when your mind starts reeling. You panic, worried about how you’ll ever dig yourself out of the black hole of debt.
When it seems like your finances are out of control—when it feels like there’s no way to find a sense of peace—you can turn to the solace of Scripture. God’s Word tells us the Lord will take care of our needs. It says that, even when it seems like God doesn’t see our burdens—he feels our heartaches. He intimately understands our anxieties and worries. And he wants us to bring those worries to him.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by money matters today, pray through these 5 verses with me:
Lord, I feel stressed by money right now. It’s hard for me to see your goodness when my bank account runs close to zero despite all my careful planning. Help me to see that you are for me even when life is hard.
Those who know you, Lord, will trust you;
you do not abandon anyone who comes to you. — Psalm 9:10 (GNTD)
Fill me with your peace that supersedes all rational thought.
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Show me how to pray for your will in my life, even during this challenging time.
We have courage in God's presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will. He hears us whenever we ask him; and since we know this is true, we know also that he gives us what we ask from him. — 1 John 5:14-15 (GNTD)
Help me trade my anxiety for your peace—and even your joy.
Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you. — 1 Peter 5:7 (GNTD)
God, I trust you. I know that you work all things for my good. Help me hold onto the truth of your love and goodness. Amen.
I will shout for joy as I play for you;
with my whole being I will sing
because you have saved me. — Psalm 71:23 (GNTD)
