You know the Bible says, that you can’t serve two masters—love and money (Matthew 6:24), but sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes it’s easier to trust in money when the rent is due and bills are piled on the dining room table. How do you trust God in the middle of that pressure?
There’s no simple solution. But the Bible is full of encouraging accounts of people trusting God in difficult situations. From Abraham’s trip up the mountain to sacrifice Isaac to Jesus, who was obedient to death—even death on a cross. Then there’s Elijah, who had to flee to a cave and wait for God to feed him by sending ravens with food. During Jesus’ ministry, he trusted God to provide food for the 5,000—even though the disciples couldn’t comprehend such a miracle.
In the midst of your own difficult financial situation, you can draw inspiration from these heroes of faith. You can also remember, meditate on and cling to the following Bible verses, which remind you that God is with you in your difficult situation. You are not alone.
- Philippians 4:19 (CEV)
I pray that God will take care of all your needs with the wonderful blessings that come from Christ Jesus! - Matthew 6:31-33 (CEV)
Don't worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” Only people who don't know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well. - Philippians 4:6, 7 (CEV)
Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.
