You remember the days when things were simpler. And cheaper.
When you were a kid, you were content to play with a hula-hoop and silly putty. Now kids can’t seem to live without expensive video games, iPads, and smartphones. You used to be able to go grocery shopping without worrying about the bill. Now you can’t seem to purchase a handful of items without the cost going into triple digits. Medical bills and insurance costs mount higher every year. And it’s all too much to keep up with.
There’s never enough time, and there’s certainly never enough money.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the chaos of your forever-dwindling bank account, there’s a way out. You can give your anxiety to God.
The next time your heart starts racing when you log into your bank account, or when your throat tightens at the sight of your grocery store receipt, take a moment to breathe. In that moment, tell God you trust him—even if you don’t feel like you do. Ask God to help you lean on his wisdom and to rest in his promise of good for your life.
After that, focus on these reminders of God’s goodness and love—and let them calm your anxious heart:
God is working for your good. He will work it out.
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
God knows what he’s doing. He hasn’t overlooked you and your financial needs.
“My thoughts,” says the LORD, “are not like yours,
and my ways are different from yours.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways and thoughts above yours. —Isaiah 55:8-9
Dare yourself to trust in God. Even when you have no money. He will guide you.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. —Proverbs 3:5-6
God has plans for your future, for you to have a full life.
I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. — Jeremiah 29:11
When you’re worried, pray for God’s peace. He’ll give it to you.
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6-7
