After months of barely scraping by, you’ve grown tired of money dictating your every move.

You don’t want to give up a healthy meal to make sure you have the electricity bill covered. You don’t want to choose between replacing your old shoes and filling your car with gas. You don’t want to skip your rent payment to meet the minimum payment on your credit card. But you’re broke. And you’re starting to lose hope.

Have you been here before?

When you return from work, you feel physically and emotionally drained. The stress of working two jobs, coupled with the anxiety of still not earning the income you need, has worn you down. You’ve thought about picking up odd jobs. And you’ve thought about finally trying to earn a degree. But all the thinking in the world hasn’t helped you feel at peace about your lack of financial stability.

So, instead of unpacking your things and making dinner, you collapse on the couch and run your hands through your hair, wondering if you’ll ever have the means to make ends meet. I’ll never get myself out of this mess, you think to yourself.

But when your finances spiral out of control and you feel overwhelmed with anxiety, you can turn to God’s Word for messages of peace, hope and perseverance. These six Bible verses will get you started:

  1. Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)
Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.
  2. Joshua 1:9 (GNTD)
Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.
  3. Exodus 15:2 (GNTD)
The Lord is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will sing about his greatness.
  4. 1 Peter 5:6-7 (GNTD)
Humble yourselves, then, under God's mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time. Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.
  5. Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
  6. Philippians 4:12-13 (GNTD)
I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little. I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.
