You’ve felt this sinking feeling in your stomach before. While driving home from work, you hear a screech and a clunk from underneath your car. Instantly, you pull over and drop your head in your hands. Seriously? Not now, not today, you think to yourself. I don’t have the money to fix this. How am I going to get to work? And get home?
It’s amazing how one money-sucking event can trigger our deepest, darkest anxieties. When faced with these events, we often go from feeling in control of our money to feeling like we have no control whatsoever. And this makes us worry.
Have you been here before?
Maybe you’re not facing car troubles, but your home needs more than a few repairs. You’re not sure how you’ll cover everything—let alone the small stuff.
Or maybe your daughter just moved back home. You love her dearly, but your budget just can’t handle the added expenses. You feel torn between supporting your family and making responsible financial decisions.
If you feel trapped under the weight of your financial stress today, I invite you to open your Bible and meditate on God’s promises for peace and perseverance. And I invite you to call out to God for hope. These four prayers will get you started:
Lord, give me peace when I feel anxious.
“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.” - John 14:27 (GNTD)
Lord, give me hope when I feel hopeless.
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. - Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
Lord, give me strength when I feel weak.
Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you. - Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)
Lord, help me to seek you continually.
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7 (GNTD)
