Notice: Your Account Has Been Overdrawn.
When you opened your email, these were the words you were dreading you’d see.
And there they are, right in front of you.
Your chest tightening, you will yourself to open the email and assess the overdraw fee. It’s staggering. You think: Why would they take money away from someone who doesn’t have it? You wonder: How am I ever going to dig myself out of this hole?
You close your email and look over your budget. Wading through your jumbled thoughts, you try to decipher a way to make it through till the next paycheck. But you’re coming up short. You can feel your heart begin to pound in your ears as the blood rises to your face. You feel like you’ve lost control.
When the bank account hits zero, you might feel frozen in worry. It’s easy to spiral into a mess of fear, anxiety, and overthinking. But God offers you a way out of your anxiety. In his Word, he tells us that he wants to trade our anxiety for peace—that he longs to takes care of us when we’re downtrodden and worn out. You can tell him what you need.
Don’t take my word for it. Take a moment to settle your mind, read God’s words, and reflect on the promise of his care for you:
God wants to take your worry.
This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes? Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds? — Matthew 6:25-26, GNTD
God will give you peace.
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6-7, GNTD
God will not let you be defeated.
Leave your troubles with the Lord,
and he will defend you;
he never lets honest people be defeated. — Psalm 55:22, GNTD
God hears your needs.
We have courage in God's presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will. He hears us whenever we ask him; and since we know this is true, we know also that he gives us what we ask from him. — 1 John 5:14-15, GNTD
God will take care of your needs.
And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs. — Philippians 4:19, GNTD
